Rethinking the Bible, Part 3 of 3

We’ll share a conversation together this week about Rethinking the Bible (Part 3 of 3).

As we look at the Bible, replete with paradox, understanding it in its cultural and historical context, and with both receptiveness and skepticism, let’s consider how we can use this book to support our spiritual journeys.

  • If you come to the Bible listening for the inner voice, can you trust your heart to resonate with truth and discern where the culture of the time may have skewed the message?
  • When you listen for the bigger story that is unfolding, in the awakening of these people over so many generations, can you see your own spiritual journey?
  • When you see that the core of the story is that we are blessed by God so we can be a blessing to the earth, how does help you seek out your mission in life?
  • By approaching the text with humility, we recognize that the very foundation of the spiritual life is mystery — can you set aside your preconceived notions?

Through these 4 approaches, can you rethink your relationship with the Bible, and have it be a help to your journey?

What role can community play in this? What can quiet space, or meditation do to help?

Let’s share a spiritual conversation on this subject, and hear your stories of your walk with God this week. What is stirring in your heart?
